Science has not proven that the Akashic Records are real. They are a spiritual idea, not a lab fact. The honest test is your own experience: when you work with them in a careful way, does the guidance make real sense of your life and help you live it better?
People ask me this question a lot, so let me answer it the way I would answer a friend over chai.
Are the Akashic Records real or fake?
They are not proven, and they are not a scam by nature. Both things are true at the same time.
The word comes from Sanskrit. Ākāśa (आकाश) means space or ether, the subtle element that holds everything. The old Indian idea is simple: every action leaves a mark. We call these marks saṃskāra (संस्कार), the impressions left by experience. The English phrase “Akashic Records” spread through the Theosophists in the late 1800s, and Edgar Cayce made it famous.
So what is “real” here? The idea is very old. The experience people have in the Records is real to them. But there is no machine that can measure it. Anyone who tells you it is “scientifically proven” is not being honest with you.
Can there be fake readers? Yes, like in any field. A reader who frightens you, asks for more and more money to “remove” something, or promises a fixed result is a red flag. The Records themselves don’t work through fear.
Is there any science behind the Akashic Records?
There is no direct scientific proof. But a few ideas from science sit close to it, and I find them interesting.
- An information field. The thinker Ervin Laszlo wrote a book called Science and the Akashic Field. He suggests that the universe may hold information in a kind of field. It is a theory, not a proof.
- Family memory in the body. Rachel Yehuda studied children of Holocaust survivors. Her work suggests that stress-related gene changes can pass to the next generation. In the Akashic view, we talk about what our pitṛ (पितृ), our ancestors, hand down to us.
- Early bonds. Attachment theory shows that our first bonds as children shape how we love as adults.
- The brain can change. Neuroplasticity means the brain can learn new patterns. This is why healing work is possible at all.
None of this proves the Records. It only shows that the idea of “the past living inside us” is not crazy. I come from computer engineering, so I like to keep these two things separate: what is proven, and what I experience.
How accurate are Akashic Records readings?
A good reading feels true and specific, not vague. It should make you say, “How did that come up?” and not, “Well, that could be anyone.”
Accuracy depends on three things:
- The reader’s training and honesty.
- How clear your question is. “Why do I freeze every time my manager raises her voice?” gets a better answer than “Tell me about my life.”
- How open you are. If you come only to test the reader, you often hear only what you came to hear.
Also, readers are human. A message can be received well and still be explained a little wrongly. Take what feels true, check it against your life, and leave the rest.
Is it safe to access the Akashic Records? Are they dangerous?
Yes, it is safe when you open and close them in the proper way, with a sacred prayer. The Records are a space of love, not a dark place.
What can feel heavy is old emotion coming up. You may cry, or feel tired after. That is not danger. That is something stuck finally moving. Drink water, rest, and be gentle with yourself.
Two honest cautions. First, if you are going through a mental health crisis, please see a doctor or therapist first. A reading does not replace medical or psychological care. Second, don’t open your Records ten times a day to ask the same thing. That is anxiety, not guidance.

Can the Akashic Records predict the future?
No. They show possibilities and the energy you are carrying right now. They do not give fixed dates or fixed outcomes.
Think of it like this. If you keep walking on the same road, you will reach a certain place. The Records can show you that road. But you can turn at any point. Your free will stays with you.
This is close to what the Bhagavad Gita says in 2.47: karmaṇy evādhikāras te mā phaleṣu kadācana (कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन). Your right is to your action, never to the fruit. The Records help you choose your actions with more clarity. They don’t sell you the fruit in advance.
Can you change your Akashic Records?
You can’t erase the past. But you can change what you carry forward.
Some karma (कर्म) is already in motion. In Indian thought this is called prārabdha karma (प्रारब्ध कर्म), the karma set in motion for this life. You can’t cancel that. But how you meet it is your choice. When you heal a pattern, the next chapter looks different. Imagine a woman who always says yes to everyone and then feels used. Once she understands where that habit began and practises saying no, the future she was walking towards slowly changes.
Do the Akashic Records really work?
They work as a tool for understanding and release. They don’t work as magic.
Most people notice change in small, real ways: they react less, choose more clearly, and stop taking old hurts so personally. It happens over weeks, not overnight. If someone promises you a cure or a guaranteed result, walk away.
Here is a simple way to see what is and is not true:
| Claim you may hear | Honest answer |
|---|---|
| “The Akashic Records are scientifically proven.” | Not true. They are a spiritual idea. |
| “A reading will tell you exactly what will happen.” | Not true. They show possibilities, not fixed events. |
| “Opening the Records is dangerous.” | Not true when opened and closed with a proper prayer. |
| “A reading can help you understand your patterns.” | Yes, this is what they are best at. |
| “A reading can replace a doctor or therapist.” | No. It can sit beside care, never replace it. |
| “You must leave your religion to use them.” | No. People of every faith use them. |
Which religion do the Akashic Records belong to?
They don’t belong to any one religion. The idea has roots in Indian philosophy, but people of every faith use the Records as a spiritual tool, not as a religion.
You don’t have to worship anyone, change your god or give up your prayers. Many people keep their own faith and simply use the Records to understand their own ātman (आत्मन्), the soul, a little better.
Are the Akashic Records against the Bible?
It depends on who you ask. Some Christians see a link between the Records and the “Book of Life” mentioned in the Bible. Others prefer not to use them at all.
Both views deserve respect. It is a personal choice. The Records don’t ask you to leave your faith, and a good teacher will never push you. If you feel unsure, talk to your own priest or elder first. Peace in your heart matters more than any reading.
